The Student Health Center is located next to the Anchor Store and is open Monday-Friday from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM and Saturdays and Sundays from 9:30 AM to 12:30 AM The Health Center is staffed by three registered nurses.

The school nurse plays a critical role in maintaining and promoting the health and well-being of students. They provide immediate medical care for illnesses and injuries, administer medications, and manage chronic conditions such as asthma, allergies and /or diabetes. Additionally, the school nurse conducts health screenings, maintains health records, and ensures compliance with immunization requirements. They also develop health plans, educate students and staff on health-related issues, and collaborate with parents, teachers, and administrators to create a safe and healthy school environment. By addressing both physical and emotional health needs, the school nurse helps to foster an optimal learning atmosphere.

For our boarding students, the school nurses collaborate with local healthcare providers to address any medical needs that cannot be handled within the Health Center.

Health forms and records are maintained in MAGNUS HEALTH.  Each parent is responsible for ensuring their child’s forms are uploaded into their child’s MAGNUS HEALTH account.  Please contact the Health Center at nurse@farragut.org if you do not have a MAGNUS HEALTH account.  Physical exams on file may not be older than one year at any given time during the school year.

All students who become ill or injured during school hours must see the nurse to be excused from classes or other obligations.

Reminders

• All Magnus requirements including the physical exam form and immunization records are due no later than August 1 for new students. Parents of returning students will receive reminders when an update for the physical exam is due. All other forms are due no later than August 1.

• Students are not permitted to carry any medication (prescription or over-the-counter) on campus unless approved by the Nurse. The exception to this policy is emergency medications, including asthma inhalers, epinephrine auto-injectors, and medications related to diabetes. Students may carry these medications if an authorized health care provider has ordered their use on the Asthma, Allergy, or Diabetic Emergency Action Plan and stated that the student can self-administer the medication. It is strongly suggested that an extra inhaler or epinephrine auto-injector be kept in the School Health Office for backup.
  
  
• A student who is too ill to arrive at school on time should remain home for the entire day.
  
  
• REMEMBER THE RULE OF 24 when deciding to send your child to school.
  • Your child must be fever-free without fever-reducing medicines for 24 hours before returning to school.
  • Your child must not have vomited or had diarrhea for 24 hours before returning to school.
  • If your child is on antibiotics for an illness, she/he/they must be on the antibiotics (whether oral, topical, or drops) for 24 hours before returning to school.
  • If your child starts a new medication, it must be given at home first so you can monitor for any adverse reaction for 24 hours.
    
    
• Students visiting the clinic more than once daily will be sent home. Parents/guardians of day students must pick up a sick child within an hour.
  
  
• Keep your contact information up to date in MAGNUS.
  
  
• Report any contagious illness, such as strep throat, pink eye, influenza, Coronavirus, etc., to the School Nurse and send in a doctor's note if your child is seen by their doctor.
